Did Victory Day expose Russia’s military weakness? | DW News

78 years ago, Soviet forces defeated the Nazis in World War Two. May 9th has since been commemorated as Victory Day in Russia, becoming one of the country’s most important holidays under Vladmir Putin. Today’s celebrations, including a huge military parade on Moscow’s Red Square, were overshadowed by a different war – the one Russia unleashed last year on its neighbor Ukraine. Nervousness over Ukraine’s long awaited spring offensive was in the air. And an apparent drone attack on the Kremlin last week has only added to the unease.
