Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said on January 9 that maintaining high combat readiness of Russia’s nuclear triad was a key goal for the country.

Shoigu made his remarks at a meeting of the top country’s defence ministry officials and military commanders, first in 2024.

In December 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the role of Russia’s nuclear triad has increased amid “new military and political risks” the country faces.
