“The proceedings continue, and Trevor remains in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. The evidence at his trial was so flimsy that spectators and even court personnel laughed at the proceedings. So, I’m very disappointed that justice has again been denied for Trevor”.

“As I’ve said to several of you before, and I’ve said publicly many times, I have no higher priority than Trevor and all the Americans who were detained here in Russia. Their welfare, their well-being and justice for them is my highest priority.”

“Regarding the exchange, the following can be said that, as before, the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, spoke openly and declared this, he discussed this issue, and since there were no other statements from him, I think that this issue continues to be resolved in some way. Whether it will be resolved – we are not going to speak on this.”

STORYLINE:
A Moscow court on Tuesday dismissed an appeal against a nine-year sentence given to an American student, Trevor Reed, who has been imprisoned for attacking law enforcement officers.
The case was sent to a court of first instance so that Reed could familiarize himself with the case materials as requested by himself before the case’s return to the court of cassation that will consider the complaint.
.S. Ambassador to Russia John J. Sullivan said he was disappointed by the outcome of the hearing.
“The proceedings continue, and Trevor remains in prison for a crime he didn’t commit,” he told journalists after the hearing.
Trevor Reed, 29, was convicted in July and sentenced to nine years in prison for an altercation in August 2019 in Moscow, where he was studying Russian and visiting his girlfriend.
He allegedly assaulted police officers who were driving him to a police station after picking him up following a night of heavy drinking at a party.
Russian authorities said Reed was drunk inside a police car when he grabbed the arm of the driver, causing him to swerve into another lane, and elbowed another officer who tried to intervene.
But investigators didn’t give the defense team the video that was recorded inside the police car.
According to Reed’s lawyer Sergey Nikitenko, the issue of Reed’s exchange is still under consideration.
