US Defense Sec. welcomes Canadian Minister of National Defence to the Pentagon with honour cordon
United States Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III welcomed Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand with an honour cordon at the Pentagon in Washington, DC on Friday afternoon.
Minister Anand was in town to confer with her U.S. counterpart on a number of issues, including recent incursions by alleged surveillance balloons belonging to China, the situation in Ukraine, as well as the two nations ongoing commitment to rebuilding Haiti.
“I’m very grateful for Canada’s leadership on Ukraine, including your recent announcement to donate Leopard 2A4 tanks to Ukraine, and I look forward to building on that work today,” Austin said in a joint statement released by the United States Department of National Defence.
“The United States is Canada’s closest ally. And I want to reiterate how we share more than just the border. We share common values; we share common belief in democracy, in freedom and the rule of law. And our partnership continues to grow,” Anand said.
