A senior Chinese diplomat has raised doubts about Australia’s reliability as an economic partner due to its defence ties with the US and the UK. China is Australia’s largest trading partner, but has imposed sanctions on many Australian exports in recent years amid a deterioration in ties. China also does not welcome a pledge for stronger defence cooperation between the US and Australia. The US has said it will increase the rotational presence of air, land and sea forces in Australia, including bomber aircraft and fighter jets.
