Rishi Sunak announces £5bn for defence as UK faces ‘volatile’ world



Rishi Sunak has said the UK will invest an extra £5bn in the armed forces over two years and increase defence spending to 2.5% of GDP.

‘It’s clear that the world has become more volatile. The threats to our security have increased,’ Sunak told reporters in an interview beside the USS Midway museum ship as he arrived in San Diego to meet Joe Biden and Anthony Albanese to agree the next steps in a landmark defence agreement, Aukus, with the US and Australia.
